After dinner, the men would often retire to smoke cigars and drink earl grey tea (laced with a bit of brandy) while the ladies would get dismissed to their sewing parlor. After an exceptionally fine meal for which she got no compliments from the menfolk, the ladies proceeded to adjourn to the parlor while Lady Grey whispered to the cook and slipped her a lavender sachet. The men soon found themselves drinking a slightly different version of the tea they were used to!
We give thanks to Lady Grey for this delicious prank.
